This is part two of the Cream Teas and Jam write up, for the first part just scroll down below!
The day started off over on the Bee-X with local riders sessioning with the BFC, young local Sam Hay stood out with a smooth, burly fast style and big airs. For a centre only a year old the standard of the local riders was impressive with 9 year old Elysia Jewett airing the bee gap in switch and generally riding about better than most other riders twice her age! Frazer Gregory also showed style and skills with some super big floaty 180s over the tabletop jump.
Once all the open riders were ready it was time to get underway with the first ever BFC/Knockhill Cream Teas and Jam, the first ever UK event to divide a centre into seperate zones with the results being totally rider judged. The session started out quite mellow with a few nose picks on the spine and a handplant or two. The heat was soon turned up with Dave Compton not complying in any way whatsoever and doing some massive no comply 180s over the spine but it Jolly Tom Reese who stole the show tearing up the dance floor with MJ stalls aplenty with 270 spins in and out and even a 450 out. It was also in this zone where Tom Haycock won the remolition best trick of the day with his amazingly innovative and totally awesome/radical/sweet (delete as applicable) half cab foot plant over the tyre jib!
Eventually an hour passed and everyone voted for their top 5 riders from zone 1 and whilst Martyn james got busy with his super-duper-mountainboard-result-worker-outerer everyone else paused for cream teas and jam which were provided by the lovely Kim and her mum who hand baked a million scones and provided the riders with a much needed refreshing drink of iced tea! Obviously this was one of the best ideas ever invented by man kind and the BFC and Knockhill have been shortlisted for the noble prize in coming up with totally sweet ideas.
Soon enough everyone found themselves in Zone 2 and it all got a bit hectic with some wallrides, a few switch tail slides from world freestyle champion Arno VDV and Ben Hall who whipped out some smooooth nose sliders. It was clear in this zone that the ante was definatly being upped and we saw Frank adams hitting up some backside 270s on to boardslide on the rainbow rail and DC and Me doing some front 270s on to frontboard on the rainbow rails with varying degrees of success. We cant forget DC’s attempts at nosegrind to boardslide on the flat down rail, unfortunatly he couldnt quite stomp em but that didnt really matter as Dave was still overwhelmed with the fact that there was still some free food kicking about. High fives all round!

After a short break we finally moved in to Zone 3 which consisted of the more usual mountainboard features, a nice tabletop jump with some boxes and rails after it and a nice quarterpipe section. lovely jubly. To cut to the chase, in this zone it was going off with riders really showing a new level of inginuity and progression: Tom Haycock with cab 3s, Ben hall with cab 5’s and some can can 1 footers straight out of moulin rouge and Myles Hillier throwing stoney balony 360s like he was made out of stone. my personal highlights included DC yet again making the ladies holler with a stalefish 360 poked to the max, sloggs getting all emotional at sunset whilst DC looked on longingly and arno VDV getting higher than everyone else. A round of applause also went out to Stu lugger who got all inventive with some crazy transfer out of the quarter ont o the funbox. It’s got to be noted that there was also a bounty of 540s going down on the kicker from the likes of Rhys Crilley, DC, Tom haycock, Ben Hall and Seb Cox who was also pushing air out of the quarter. yeah for it!

Right at the end of the day there was a radical air comp which saw some impressivley radical airs from pretty much everyone with the tone being pregrabbed palm airs, double handed x up roast beefs and backflips in sumo suits. Some said that the world wasnt ready for thsi level of stupidity yet but you seriously gotta check out Dave’s backscratcher and how happy he was with himself after he had done it! ha ha.
It was soon time for the prize giving (some might say that the whole day was a prize giving as Martyn James was throwing out spot prizes like some kind of scottish santa claus) The rider results from each zone were added up and it was Trampa rider Tom Reese who walked away with the overall cash prize with DC in second and Arno VDV in third. Remolition Best Trick went to Tom Haycock for his half cab 1 foot plant though Ben Hall was a close contender with some crazy stunts like fingerflips, 1 footer combos and cab 540’s. Myles Hillier walked away with the most fun and progression award after rail sliding with steez all day and seriously, anyone who can do a double handed high five definatly deserves to be knighted in our opinion.
Heres a picture of the winners of the BFC B Boi competition whcih saw people judged on their breakdancing, freestyle rapping and gangster fashion.

After this was time to head off and watch the brand spanking new BFC DVD “Like This” on the big screen in the bar! We dont want to spoil it for any of you, but we think it is a lot of fun to watch and everyone else seemed to have a great time watching it! Once the film was over it was time for everyone to sit around the camp fire and chat about the days events and plans for the season. And yes here is where we get all soppy on you but weve just got to say it, we love mountainboarding!
Thanks to everyone who showed up and gave us some support, we hope you enjoyed “Like This” and had a great days riding! spread the word!
